However within this ramshackle of shops one stands out alone a shining example of how business should be conducted. That place is tropical treasures. The difference between this and most of the other shops is that you are free to go in no one is pushing you in from the street. The owner Sam is a man very knowledgeable in both his customers and his stock. There is no hard sell and we purchased the bulk of our products from him today. His pricing are clearly marked and he is willing to trade in both us and Jamaican dollars.Go see him he has the biggest sign on the strip!X3247PXjow, UNITED KINGDOM. Been visiting the Hip Strip for many years and only go to 1 shop there. Tropical Treasures is the BEST! No high pressure sales tactics, reasonable prices, and a clean environment. Sam the owner will treat you like family. He remembers us from previous years and is happy to help you in his shop. You will find a lot of the same merchandise from shop to shop but you won't find the excellent customer service Sam and his staff provide. Would highly recommend this shop!Jan T, North Carolina. We found Tropical Treasures on our Honeymoon 15 years ago and have gone back every time we are in Jamaica, which has been often. Sam is outgoing, friendly, and unlike the rest of the shops, not pushy in any way. He will offer you a drink or to use his phone to call home. We have recommended his shop to everyone we know and no one has been disappointed. My daughter and her family were just in Montego Bay and went to Sam's Tropical Treasures to say hi and stock up on coffee. Sam sent a Rum Cake and Blue Mountain coffee home with them for us! We highly recommend you stopping in and looking around this shop!Frank and Julie, Chicago. As written in TripAdvisor.November 2017
What's the best souvenir shop in Montego Bay that isn't part of any larger crafts market? It stands alone on the Hip Strip, surrounded by less appealing shops on at least one side. It's Tropical Treasures, Shop #1, 55 Gloucester Ave. (tel. 876/971-8531). Open daily from 9am to 7pm, under the ownership of the genuinely charming Sam Chhugani, it offers handmade gift items, a wide range of Jamaican rums, cigars, jerk spices, coffees, CDs by Jamaican musicians, rum cakes, some very intriguing beachwear, and some of the most attractive women's dresses we've seen. Many were crafted in India, come in "one size fits all" motifs, seem appropriate for cocktail parties within moonlit gazebos, are undeniably sexy, and rarely exceed US$50 in price.FROMMERS Travel Guide, Jamaica.
I am a travel agent and I take a group to Jamaica every year. When staying in the area, I'll plan a shopping excursion to Tropical Treasures. Sam, the owner, is so great! There are a lot of shops on the Hipstrip, but Tropical Treasures is my fave! He has been mentioned in Frommers travel guide for a reason. His customer service, and great prices are hard to beat!AmazingResi, Canada. As written in TripAdvisor.February 2016
So far we only visited one shop on hip strip, (Tropical Treasures) because we'd seen several good reviews on it.The reviews were right and sammie was awesome. No pressure in the store and the prices were so good we felt no need to barter. Discounts for smiling and because he was so thrilled to hear how we'd heard about his place on trip advisor.Kristen L.
